German Subs Decommissioned

U206AOn June 1 2010 half of the active fleet of German submarines were abruptly decommissioned from service.

The six 500 ton U-206A class submarines were, it is believed, sacrificed ahead of a round of swinging defence cuts planned for the German military. The retirement of these boats means that Germany only has four operational U-212A class submarines in the active fleet.
