HMS CumberlandOn the 3rd December the Type 22 frigate HMS Cumberland returned home to Plymouth after a six and a half month anti drugs and anti piracy patrol.

The latest member of the Daring class, HMS Dauntless, arrived at her homeport of Portsmouth for the first time on 3 December and will join the fleet early in 2010.

HMS Dauntless

Her arrival was on a grey day with low cloud and light rain, which continued for part of the following day when the builder’s flag was lowered and replaced with the Royal Navy’s white ensign. The ship’s arrival was somewhat marred by national newspaper reports suggesting that the ships Sea Viper anti aircraft/anti missile system would not be completely ready for service for another two years following a series of trials failures in the Mediterranean.
