The Alexander von Humboldt was built in 1906 as the lightship Kiel and spent eighty years in the Baltic and in 1986 she was converted to a barque. It seems that her inside hull was coated in cement. She is to become a museum ship and be replaced with a new barque. Because of her backing from a brewery the Alexander von Humboldt had a green hull and sails, but the new barque will have a black and white hull.
