After many ocean voyages she was bought by the Swedish Navy in 1923 for a training ship and she later became a youth hostel.
In 1988, she underwent a major rebuild and then returned to her role as a youth hostel berthed near the Admiralty House on Skeppsholm in Stockholm Harbour.
The Tre Kroner was actually built on this island in the middle of Stockholm Harbour on the lines of the brig Gladan that was built in 1857 as an ocean trader and became the Swedish Navy training ship until 1924.
Over 1,000 trees were used in the construction of her hull and although she was launched in 2005, made her maiden voyage two years later. The original brig had deep single tops’ls, but the present Tre Kroner’s tops’ls are divided into two.
Basically, the Tre Kroner does charter work, but tends to be involved with anything to do with saving the environment.
