Port MiamiIf the new Panama Canal actually opens on time next April – leaks and all – Miami is ready.

PortMiami on 18 September saw celebrations for the official completion of Miami’s USD 1 billion Deep Dredge project and Ondock Intermodal Rail making Miami the only major US port south of Chesapeake Bay capable of handling fully laden post-Panamax ships.

Miami also now has Super Post-Panamax gantry cranes that can reach across 22 containers.

CMA CGM Marlin (295 metre, 5,094 TEU) was the first ship into the deepened Miami harbour.

The rail project reconnected the port to the Florida East Coast railway by replacing a hurricane damaged trestle.
