SHELL’S first inland waterway LNG bunker barge carried out her first bunkering operation at Rotterdam in June.
The LNG London, owned by LNG Shipping, a co-operation between Victrol and Sogestran, is on long-term charter to Shell and the first operation was with the two 1,798gt Containerships duo Containerships Polar and Containerships Nord.
The 110m long 3,000 cu m capacity barge would normally be used by Shell in the ports of Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Antwerp.
Tahir Faraqui, the general manager of Shell Downstream LNG, said: “The entry into service of the LNG London shows our ability and commitment to providing safe and reliable supplies that help meet the growing need for cleaner-burning fuel.”
The LNG London loads at the Gate Terminal in Rotterdam. The cargo is delivered to sea-going vessels, inland barges and terminals onshore, while the bargecan sail via inland waterways to Antwerp and Amsterdam.
