DENMARK has now moved into fifth position in the list of the world’s largest shipping countries.
Top of the list is Greece with a fleet of 300.4mn dwt, and is followed by Singapore then China and Japan. After Denmark is the United States then Germany.
Anne H Steffensen, the chief executive of the Danish Shipowners Association, said: “With 83.8mn total dwt, shipping is one of Denmark’s largest industries and reaching fifth place shows that the country’s shipping strategy has worked. We have seen great growth in the ships operated by Danish shipping companies, and there are more ships flying the Danish flag than ever before.”
