Six new 173,400 cu m capacity LNG carriers have joined the fleet of BP Shipping, of London.
The ships are the British Achiever, British Contributor, British Listener, British Mentor, British Partner and British Sponsor. They were ordered in 2014 from Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME), of South Korea.
BP Shipping said the project had cost $1.3bn and took some 4.6-5mn hours of work to complete. Each ship is 294.9m long with a beam of 46.4m and is fitted with two next-generation M-type electronically-controlled, gasinjection propulsion systems and a full reliquefaction system designed by DSME. The service speed is 20 knots.
In October, 2017, BP joined forces with K Marin and ICBC Leasing on the newbuilding project, the two firms investing more than $1bn in the six ships.
