In mid-May, the largest jack-up vessel operated by the windfarm installation company Seajacks UK, of Gt Yarmouth, completed work on the biggest offshore windfarm project in the Irish Sea.
The company said the Seajacks Scylla had installed 87 turbines on the Walney Extension windfarm around 19km from the coast of Walney Island, off Cumbria.
The ship began work on the Walney Extension on Aug 1 last year and completed the installation of 40 MHI Vestas 8 MW turbines and 47 Siemens Gamesa 7 MW turbines on Apr 24, four weeks ahead of schedule.
The Seajacks Scylla was completed by Samsung Heavy Industries, of South Korea, in October, 2015 and is the largest of the company’s five installation vessels. Her 105m long legs allow her to install components in water upto 65m deep.
