The largest container ship ever to visit Southampton arrived on Nov 8 last year from the Far East.
The Milan Maersk is a second-generation Triple-E class container ship and has a capacity for 20,568 teu. In 2016 the largest container ship calling at Southampton had a capacity for 16,000 teu.
Associated British Ports Southampton Director Alastair Welch said: “The Milan Maersk is just the latest of the new megaships to visit the port. Not only are these vessels bigger, they are much cleaner and we are seeing more of these new generation ships visiting across the port’s key trades.”
The Milan Maersk is one of 11 container ships which will be delivered by the end of 2018. She has an overall length of 399m, a beam of 58.6m, a height above the waterline of 59.7m and a draft of 16m.
