The Port of Tyne had its busiest day ever at its International Passenger Terminal in North Shields on Aug 16 with a record five passenger ships in 24 hours including the biggest cruise ship ever to visit the port.
Around 10,000 passengers and crew passed through the terminal throughout the day.
Holland America Line’s Koningsdam, 99,500gt, was the largest cruise ship to visit the Tyne at 297.2m long and 99,500 gross tons. The Aidavita, 42,289gt, of Aida Cruises, which arrived the previous day and sailed the next morning, closely followed by the arrival of the Seven Seas Voyager, 42,363gt, of Regent Seven Seas Cruises, the Koningsdam, the King Seaways. 31,788gt, of DFDS, and the Astor, 20,704gt, of Cruise & Maritime Voyages.
