Oasis of the SeasThe largest cruise ship in the world, the Oasis of the Seas, 225,282gt, (pictured) called at Southampton on Oct 15, her first visit to a British port.

The ship entered service with the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, of Miami, in 2009, having been built by the Aker Yard, in Finland. She is 1,187ft long and 208ft wide and her height above the waterline is 236ft.

The Oasis of the Seas can carry upto 6,360 passengers and has a crew of around 2,200. There are 2,706 cabins of which 2,210 have outside views and 1,956 have private balconies.

The ship had undergone a major refit at Rotterdam and later that day, she sailed for Vigo, Spain, on her way back to Florida.

Another of the line’s ships, the Quantum of the Seas, 167,800gt, was due at Southampton on Nov 2 from her builders, Meyer Werft, Germany.
