The shipping and logistics specialist Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (WWL), is providing a link to the Port of Tyne on its regular roll-on, roll-off service between Asia and Europe via the Suez and Panama Canals.
Steven Harrison, Port of Tyne chief operating officer, said: “This has been introduced to meet the demands of plant and heavy equipment manufacturers who wish to move their cargo via the port.”
Paul Reeves, managing director, WWL UK, said: “The Port of Tyne is connected to solid inland distribution services to the entire UK market and Ireland thanks to the our inland network services.”
The first call was by the pure car truck carrier Tristan, 51,071gt, which arrived on July 16 and discharged construction equipment. The ship had sailed over 8,000 miles in 30 days from Japan, calling at Singapore, Izmir and Zeebrugge.
