On Thursday 14th July, my wife and I boarded the wonderful Balmoral at Douglas (Isle of Man) for an evening ‘jazz cruise’ along the coast up to Ramsey.
I am a great admirer of the ship and the dedicated team that keeps her in service. In summer, we are lucky that she does several cruises to/from the Island.
During the voyage, I had an opportunity to talk to Richard Mills (White Funnel Director and Treasurer of the Charity which owns the ship). I also visited the bridge and had a chat with Captain David Howie, Master of the Balmoral. An Ayrshire man, he obviously had a great knowledge of his historic ship and her origins and career to date.
It is always a great pleasure to take a trip on the Balmoral and to watch her arriving/leaving Douglas is always a memorable sight. She had a good complement of passengers onboard, all patently enjoying the trip and the music and good food. I hope as I always do, that the Balmoral gets a fine spell of weather and a bumper cruising season.
