I was therefore delighted to hear from the Balmoral team, that her sailing schedule for the 2016 season is a very ambitious one – showing a 53% increase in actual sailing days from last year’s first season back. All in all, there are 117 sailing days planned for this much loved vessel.
The 1949 Classic Coastal Cruising Vessel starts her season with a week on the Bristol Channel Friday 13th May to Tuesday 24th May and ends there on the weekend of Sunday 2nd October. In between she will sail the South Coast on 14 days, London & South East Waters for 23 days, North Wales/North West, Liverpool and Isle of Man for 24 days with a return to the Clyde planned for four days 23rd Sept to 26th Sept.
Balmoral will call at 55 different harbours, ports and piers around the UK with the majority of the traditional “steamer calls”, but also some exciting new ports of call. It is vital that the ship makes a considerable profit on the season, so as to “bank sufficient funds” to put away for next year’s maintenance costs. It is hoped that the “weather gods” (so often the curse of coastal steamers) will be kinder this summer than last year when Balmoral lost 25% of her sailing days.
