The most dramatic calendar I receive each year is the Flying Focus one.
The Flying Focus maritime aerial photography team conquer the elements of nature taking photographs of ships being tested in extreme weather conditions. Its heavy duty Cessna Skymaster has demonstrated its toughness in carrying out spectacular flights over the North Sea with conditions Beaufort Force 9 and over.
These heavy weather flights make a testing change from the normal routine photo flights executed by the Flying Focus team almost daily, but they result in wonderfully dramatic photographs, a reminder that life at sea for the modern seafarer can still be a very challenging one.
My own routine is to view these in my own house in winter as the wind shrieks outside – sipping a good Scottish single malt (Speyside preferred), relieved that my seagoing days are over.
The calendar contains 13 impressive heavy weather photographs and the 2015 edition is entitled ‘Gale Warning Calendar’. Size is 30x38cm; cost €18 (excluding postage).
Flying Focus also publish books and calendars about fishing, shipping, offshore oil and gas, offshore wind farms as well as tugs and workboats. All products can be ordered through the Flying Focus website at www.flyingfocus.nl
