Trouble has rumbled on between the Irish Government, Galway County Council and Aran operators Island Ferries, who object to levying an extra charge per passenger to help defray the public costs of harbour works at Kilronan on Inis Mor.
There are reports of an impasse and the Ferries being withdrawn for the winter. Some sense must prevail to take the bile out of this particular argument that must drive the Aran islanders crazy.
The little former CIE owned lo-lo ferry Naomh Eanna does not seem to have received any indication of financial support to preserve her sorry looking self in Dublin and I wonder how much time she has left before scrapping. Naomh Eanna from Liffey Dockyard in ’58 served the Arans’ in Galway Bay from Galway city for 30 years and has since lain in the Grand Canal Basin in use as a shop and club .
