This time last year the PSA took great joy in celebrating its 50th anniversary. Formally known as Ocean Travel Development (OTD), the association was originally set up to ensure that the pleasures of travelling by sea were not over shadowed by that of the jet aircraft.
Though much has changed in the last 50 years, including a name change to the Passenger Shipping Association in 1976, the overall objectives of the association “To Promote travel by Sea” has ultimately remained the same.
Today, the PSA is fully recognised as the voice of the industry, representing 32 cruise lines (amounting to 40 brands) and 14 ferry operators and is run by a Council of management (made up of seven cruise and four ferry members). The office consists of a small and very dedicated team, led by myself as the Director since 1994. The current chairman of the PSA is Lars Olsson of Stena Line.
