Celebrity Edge

You have to admire the innovative mindset that is evident within the creative corridors of a modern cruise line.

Entertaining activities on board in an earlier age may have featured driving a golf ball off the stern of the vessel or indulging in clay pigeon shooting from the same site. Not any more. Life has moved on, with possibly the Royal Caribbean Line in the forefront of onboard distractions. Robot bartenders, onboard bumper cars and a London Eye-like pod ride on a ship’s top deck, not to mention an ice skating rink, a rock climbing wall a 9-hole mini golf course, not forgetting the simulated surfboard FlowRider which has set the bar for future newbuilds industry-wide.

However, other lines have been stimulated to introduce their own attractions!

Celebrity Cruises (whose parent just happens to be Royal Caribbean Cruises!), will introduce the 129,500-ton, 1,004-foot, 2,918-passenger Celebrity Edge in the autumn of 2018. It’s the first of four planned Edge-class ships.

Perched on the starboard side of the ship, the Magic Carpet is an open-air panoramic, outward-facing ocean view venue designed with comfortable seating, a full bar, and space for live music performances that will move up and down 13 decks.

Celebrity Cruises have incorporated other design features for their new vessels including two stories of windows in the two-level atrium stairway that looks out over the terrace, featuring a threefoot- deep plunge pool.
