Modern cruise vessels are frequently and understandably compared with inclusive resort hotels…and the comparison isn’t inaccurate, with the important exception that because cruise vessels float and move, they are able to offer their clients a view that probably changes on a daily basis.
An exception to the above however is the Sun Cruise Resort, which some Sea Breezes’ readers may have read about or even visited.
Located on a coastal cliff in Jeongdongjin, a tourist destination known for having the best view of the sunrise in South Korea, Sun Cruise Resort & Yacht claims to be the world’s first on-land cruise themed resort.
So what was the motivation, you may ask? Sun Cruise Resort Hotel was designed and built by a shipyard to “emulate the experience of cruising on a cruise ship”. The management claims that “A stay at the hotel does a good job of approximating a cruise, complete with sound effects, without the motion sickness. Because the ship is constructed high on the edge of a mountain a stroll on the sun deck allows one to feel they are out at sea”.
