Meanwhile, as the oil price is showing signs of recovery and the future of other oil and gas fi elds – for example the Arctic – are not straightforward, and with potential and actual pipeline problems, the need for oil and gas exploration seems to be back on the agenda.
Hence there is another safety contract recently commissioned, this time by Shell and Maersk Oil who have contracted a Norwegian flag safety vessel of Atlantic Offshore to serve the new Central North Sea ‘Culzean’ field.
The vessel is the Ocean Troll, an ‘Emergency Response and Rescue Vessel’ (ERRV). Atlantic Offshore has secured a two-year charter for Ocean Troll to provide emergency rescue and fire fi ghting services for the new field. Ocean Troll is the first Fire Fighting Class II (Fi-Fi II) ERRV to operate in the UK sector of the North Sea.
Ocean Troll is equipped for multirole safety systems managed by the company from its Aberdeen base. Atlantic Offshore Scotland Ltd is part of a Norwegian consortium employing 210 people and providing multi-role ERRVs for several North Sea oil majors.
