Two are Aberdeen registered, Ocean Falcon and Ocean Osprey, built as a series of three sophisticated safety-standby ships, 3,000,’14, at the Zamakona yard, Bilbao for the Norwegian company Atlantic Offshore.
While Ocean Osprey is on duty off Aberdeen in the Gannet Field and the Ocean Falcon is fitting out, the third, Ocean Marlin is under the Norwegian flag working out of Stavanger and Haugesund.
Reader Harry Lowe, found the innovative Norwegian rig supply vessel Viking Lady on the Norwegian Coast when on his last Hurtigruten voyage and as seen, she is also unique as far as I am aware having her bridge and accommodation aft, which her designers and builders say is safer for the crew.
As well as sporting her natural gas - LNG green fuel credentials, she is being adapted to a hybrid vessel with an advanced design battery pack installed which ultimately should represent a fuel saving of up to 30%.
A truly innovative vessel inside and out.
