The Rotterdam-based marine services provider Smit Lamnalco has won an exclusive licence from the Gladstone Ports Corporation in Australia to supply towing services in the port.
The five year contract was due to start on Jan 1 this year and has an option to extend it for a further three years, until Dec 31, 2025.
Smit Lamnalco has been providing harbour towage at Gladstone since 2011. Gladstone is one of Queensland’s largest multi-commodity ports, handling coal, bauxite, alumina, aluminium, cement and LNG cargoes.
Under the contract, 11 tugs, specially designed to meet the operational characteristics of the port, will be deployed to service the harbour and the LNG terminal.
