The first four of nine giant cranes for the DP World Australia container terminals at Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Fremantle arrived at three of the ports in March.
The cranes have been ordered from the Chinese manufacturer Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co, of China, and all will be operational by this October. The first four were transported by the heavy lift ship Zhen Hua 21, 28,902gt, with one delivered to Brisbane and three to the Melbourne and Sydney terminals.
The first of what will be two cranes at Brisbane arrived on Mar 5 as part of a A$180mn investment in port equipment at all the DP World terminals in Australia.
Glenn Wayne, the company’s Brisbane Terminal general manager, said: “The new crane with a boom outreach of 51m can service larger vessels which increases our capacity to service ships faster.”
