Carnival Legend

The cruise ship Carnival Legend, 85,942gt, of Carnival Cruise Line Australia, had to put into the port of Eden on the New South Wales (NSW) coast on Feb 16.

The unscheduled stop was to disembark a family of 23 who had allegedly been involved in three days of violent fighting while on the 10-day South Pacific cruise from Melbourne.

The ship put into Twofold Bay, Eden, on the advice of the NSW Police. Six men and three teenage youths were removed from the ship and a further 14 passengers, including women and children, voluntarily left the ship.

The ship then continued on her voyage back to Melbourne.

Jennifer Vandekreeke, the line’s vice president, said: “We take a zero tolerance approach to excessive behaviour that affects other guests. “The ship’s security staff took strong action in relation to a small group of disruptive guests who had been involved in altercations on board.”

The line announced that passengers will be offered 25% credit against the cost of another cruise.
