MHI Nagasaki Shipyard

The Japanese company Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has established two new wholly-owned companies in a major reorganisation of its shipbuilding business.

From Jan 1 this year, the company split its shipbuilding business into Mitsubishi Shipbuilding, which will primarily undertake construction of ships that require extensive fitting out, and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Marine Structure which will mainly engage in the manufacture of large ships and marine structures.

Mitsubishi Shipbuilding combines MHI’s shipbuilding yards, including Shimonoseki and Nagasaki, and the company is exclusively dedicated to shipbuilding. This new company will concentrate on ships that require intensive outfitting, such as ferries and vessels used by government agencies.
