The first Japanese-built 20,170 teu container ship was named MOL Truth at a ceremony on Oct 25 at the Imabari Shipbuilding’s Saijo yard. She was delivered on Oct 31 to Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL).
The ship was ordered in 2015 as part of a deal for six 20,000 teu container ships, with two from Imabari Shipbuilding and four from Samsung Heavy Industries, of South Korea.
The MOL Truth is the fifth in the series and is being used on THE Alliance’s Asia- Northern Europe service.The Panama Maritime Authority’s Minister for Maritime Affairs, Jorge Barakat Pitty, said she is the first Japanese 20,000 teu container ship to carry the Panamanian flag.
The last in the series is being built at Imabari Shipbuilding’s Marugame yard for delivery this month.
