AAL Dampier

The cargo ship AAL Dampier, 14,053gt, of the Singapore-based breakbulk, project cargo and heavy lift carrier Austral Asia Line, delivered a giant electrostatic precipitator (ESP) module to Port Pirie’s smelting facility in southern Australia in August.

Operated by Nyrstar, an integrated mining and metals processing business, the smelting facility is said to be one of the world’s largest.

The 41m long and 21m high module weighed 530 tonnes and is the largest component to be shipped for the ongoing redevelopment project that will convert the smelter into a multi-metals processing and recovery facility.

The massive ESP unit was shipped from the Yanda Module Yard in Jiangsu, China, and was lifted and loaded in the port of Nantong using the 700 tonnes combined lifting capacity of this class of ship.
