Mention of the name Princess Maud I at the jetty in Stranraer in the photo in ‘Ferry World, January 2012 issue of Sea Breezes, brings back fond memories of our Princess Maud II.

Princess MaudDenny built for the Larne – Stranraer station and brought down to the Holyhead – Dun Laoghaire station in the spring of 1947. I had the pleasure of sailing on her with my family during her time on this station, now relegated to summer season only. She was pinched for one season only in 1951 for the Southampton – St Malo service. I enclose a photo of her in the early 60’s.

She’s a beauty, like a little Titanic with one stack. She left our shores in 1965 and was sold to Lefkosia Compania Naviera, Panama, for service in Greek waters and renamed Venus. She ended her days as an accommodation ship at Burmeister & Wain, Copenhagen. Does any reader know if she was broken up there somewhere?
