THE MOTOR YACHT AARLA, originally built named Hecate by D & W Henderson, Glasgow during 1903 for W G Hetherington Esq, of Glasgow, was requisitioned by the Admiralty on the outbreak of WWII and was despatched to Freetown, Sierra Leone, where she was used as a Pilot Cutter.
During her stay at Freetown she was placed under the management of Elder Dempster Lines Ltd, who also provided the Master (Captain Robert Marks) and other senior officer personnel.
I do have, on file, all her building details and eventual demise. If any reader can supply a photograph of this craft it would be most appreciated.
