I VERY MUCH ENJOYED READING ‘The ss Masirah’ by Gordon Douglas in the September 2010 issue of Sea Breezes, however, I am not a Brocklebank expert but I believe the article carried a painting of the incorrect ship.
It appears to be a 1960’s ship and not the coal burner built in 1919 and sailed on by the author in 1954. Shown here is a postcard of what I believe is the correct ship.
Thank you to Trevor, and to our other readers who spotted our error in the September issue. The excellent painting by James Pottinger was in fact of the Masirah II which was completed in 1957.
