I was saddened to read in the Letter of the Month from Bill Davis, of the state of the Royal Iris and to see this amply illustrated by the photo that accompanied it.
As one who danced on her decks in the 1960s, I share his view that she should be brought back to the Mersey and restored.
Shortly after reading Bill’s letter I attended the annual exhibition of the Wapping Group of Artists at the Mall Galleries, London and was delighted to see there a painting of the Royal Iris, although in her dreadful state.
The artist, Derek Daniells has kindly agreed to the publication of this painting in Sea Breezes in the hope that it will attract further interest in the ship’s sorry state and encourage like-minded individuals to take an interest in what can be done and is being done to rectify the situation.
