SS Connemara

Despite the dramatic-looking picture in the December 2017 issue of Sea Breezes, the Islay Trader was not unduly held up by her encounter with Margate beach and after inspection in Holland, has resumed the trading pattern she inherited from Pluto (ex Union Pluto).

This latter ship made her final appearance at Whitstable on 26 August, her 627th visit since taking over stone imports there in October 1999.

When her owners, Absolute Shipping, folded last year, Pluto was sold to SEAG8 of Canterbury who have now replaced her with Islay Trader purchased from Faversham Ships, though this firm continues to advise on her management. However, there are threats she will be renamed Pluto 2 in due course which can hardly be considered to be inspired thinking!
