MV Balmoral, the 1949 built classic excursion ship, will be back in service in May 2016 for a second season under her new ownership and this summer will be operating on the South Coast, the Thames and the Clyde, as well as the Bristol Channel and Irish Sea.
The full timetable can be viewed on the White Funnel website www.whitefunnel.co.uk. In preparation for the season we are looking for volunteers in all her sailing areas:To distribute literature and posters before sailings start in each area.
On sailing days, to act as “Pier Hosts” welcoming passengers before the vessel arrives and acting as liaison between ship and shore.
There are also opportunities for supporters who are sailing to sell Sailing Route Guides and the Balmoral Gazette around the decks once the ship sails, as well as to help by selling raffle tickets and chatting to their fellow passengers about the ship during the sailing.
We would also welcome new blood to join our small team of commentators – and here local knowledge is particularly useful. Many, if not most, Sea Breezes readers are knowledgeable and enthusiastic about shipping matters and if you live near the sailing areas we hope that some of you might be willing to help us. We now have a Balmoral Support website http://tinyurl.com/balmoralsupport which gives details of all the volunteer opportunities, as well as details of how to contact us to sign up.
Being a volunteer with MV Balmoral is a challenging, but rewarding experience – particularly when you see passengers enjoying sailing round our coasts again. With a full operating season this year we need a lot more help, so please sign up and join us.
