In Patrick Boniface’s article on the sinking of Royal Oak in the October 2014 issue of Sea Breezes, he states that U-47 was sunk by HMS Wolverine, HMS Verity, and the corvettes, HMS Camelia and HMS Arbutus, on 8th March 1941.
This assessment was changed in June 1991 by the Foreign Documents Section of the Naval Historical Branch of the Ministry of Defence (NHB/NHB).
U-47 is now listed as being missing from the 7th March 1941, south of Iceland, approx position 60N 13W. The reason the lost assessment was changed was because the attack by HMS Wolverine was found to have been carried out on U A which survived and returned to base.
