WHILST HOLIDAYING IN THE WEST COAST OF IRELAND recently, I came across a sad and sorry sight which had seen better days.
It was the Scottish puffer Pibroch moored alongside a pier in a small bay between Clifden and Moyard, Connemara.
The ravages of time and mindless vandalism were only too apparent and it was a shock to think that I had last seen her floating and apparently abandoned in Lamonts Dock, Greenock 30 years ago! I made some enquires at the local shop, Avoca, at the head of the pier and was told that somebody had bought her to convert into a houseboat but the idea was never taken up and the latest news is that somebody from Scotland wants to take her back there and restore her to her former glory.
As you will see from the pictures, it looks to be an impossible task and at least an extremely expensive one.
