As a ‘dyed in the wool’ Sea Breezes man, I know how helpful the readers can be and therefore I wonder if anyone can help in tracing the following vessel that appears within the 1911 UK census.
My grandfather, Septimus McCoy, (1882-1930 of North Shields), was listed on-board as an engineer when the census was written and the vessel listed is the Broadmain at Bartonupon-Irwell, Stretford. I presume this to be on the Manchester Ship Canal. For all my searching I cannot trace a vessel Broadmain. The only close reference was ss Broadmayne, 1888-1921, built at Palmers Shipbuilders in Newcastle, (this would fit in with my grandfather in a way). Is there any way I can check a crew list for the ss Broadmayne and can anyone help with tracing Broadmain, (this was maybe spelt wrongly by the visiting Census Officer?).
