I MUST SAY how much I enjoyed the article by Murray Robinson in recent issues of Sea Breezes.
In one of the picture captions he states that “nothing remains of her today”. The statement is not quite right as her mainmast is ashore in the Frank Kitts Park, Lambton Harbour, Wellington, as a reminder of the tragedy. Also, there is a memorial at Seatoun in the form of one of her anchors with a length of anchor chain. The anchor chain is secured to a memorial plague and plinth and the anchor is laid out to point to where Wahine foundered.
There is a very good book, The Wahine Disaster - A tragedy remembered by Emmanuel Makarios, that was available from the Wellington Museum, ISBN 1-86934-079-5.
