SEA BREEZES MARCH 2010 • VOL 84 • NO. 771
It is with great sadness that I have to report the death of our editor Captain Andrew Douglas, on January 15th 2010.
Andrew fought his illness over the last months with courage, dignity and without losing his always positive outlook on life. His sense of humour and fun never left him. He was very proud of his role as editor of this famous magazine, which he had first read as a young lad. His pride in and respect for the Merchant Navy – its great years – its fine ships and famous companies were constants.
His funeral service on January 22nd at Castletown Methodist Church was a true celebration of a life well lived and one of great service to his beloved Isle of Man. The church was packed to the rafters reflecting the respect and affection in which Captain Douglas was held. He will be greatly missed. The many messages of sympathy which we have already received at Sea Breezes, will be passed on to Andrew’s wife Doreen and family. Full tributes to Captain Douglas on pages 124 and 125 of the March 2010 Issue and here on the website.
